For forests to flourish!
Once, our grandparents slept on hay, while today we close our eyes in comfortable beds. Yet we still long for the touch, the scents, and the sounds of nature…
So that forests may flourish, we made a promise to you and began a tradition. Every spring, we plant a tree for each bed purchased by our customers in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and – starting in 2025 – in Poland as well. This tradition began in 2023, so the saplings are already growing. And with them grow our care for nature, our gratitude, and our responsibility for tomorrow.
Join us in letting the forests flourish.
LONAS Forest
The Beginning
2023
2024
We marked the beginning of this new tradition in Kalviškiai, the homeland of LONAS founder Kazimieras Jakutis – here, the LONAS garden will flourish. It is not only a gift from the founder’s family to their native land, but also a place of togetherness for the entire village – after all, local residents contributed to creating the garden, coming not just to greet but also to plant the trees. The saplings are already thriving, with a 100% survival rate, so in just a few years, passersby will be able to find shade from the sun, rest for a while, or even pick walnuts.
In Kazitiškis, Ignalina district, the first of these forests came to life in 2024, with 5,620 birches, pines, and alders planted for beds purchased in 2023. Everyone who chose our beds in 2023 now has a forest taking root in Kazitiškis.
In the Ignalina district, the second LONAS forest is already taking root – dedicated to all our customers who chose a bed in 2024 in Lithuania, Latvia, or Estonia. This time, larches, hornbeams, birches, and young pines have begun to flourish. On May 1, we planted as many trees as there were LONAS beds delivered to your homes – 5,300 in total. This is the second year of our tradition, inspired and continuously nurtured by its initiator, LONAS founder Kazimieras Jakutis.
Locations of LONAS Forests
To choose the tree species best suited to the soil, LONAS consulted naturalists who know forests and their flora and fauna best. The planting site was identified and the project designed by LONAS founder, bard, and devoted steward of nature, Kazimieras Jakutis. This is how the new forests came to life in Aukštaitija. In these young groves – and later, in the mature forests – hunting and logging will not be permitted.
Planted by LONAS employees
Sustainability and environmental protection are values close to our whole team, which is why we decided to do the planting ourselves. After consulting with foresters, we chose the right time, the tree species, and the land. And so, every spring, LONAS team members take shovels in hand.
At the festive event “For Significant Contribution to Society”, the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts named UAB LONAS the winner of the main prize.
This award reminds us of our promise – to plant a tree for every bed sold in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland. It is a tradition born out of love for nature, and one we will continue, for it is a promise we made not to others, but to ourselves.
